Former intern and now full-time audio engineer, Jose Manuel Garcia, a
local Santa Ana native, has proven that he is a valuable asset to Stewart
Sound and our clients. Besides working on commercial, film, and surround
sound audio sessions in B Bay, he also maintains the studio’s gigabit
network and server applications, doubles as a graphic designer when working
on our website, newsletters, and marketing materials, and is currently
improving his video skills doing dubs, digitizing, and authoring DVD’s
in our new HD video bay.
He has over 12 years of musical experience, playing with groups ranging
from traditional concert and marching bands in school, to playing with
mariachis, Andean groups, and even a brass band “tambora”
in his parent’s native hometown of Tacatzcuaro, Michoacan. His musical
abilities have earned him various awards including the prestigious John
Philip Sousa award and various trophies in high school. Alongside his
creative talents, he discovered his attraction to technology as a youth,
interacting with computers via “old school” DOS prompts, learning
to code HTML by hand, and programming with Visual Basic.
His passion for the arts and technology has always been strong, but it
was in college, while studying music theory and taking digital recording
classes, that he discovered that he could make it a career. Following
a semester long internship at Stewart Sound and freelance work on audio
programs for FedEx and UPS, he decided to pursue audio post-production.
He went on to study video synchronization, advanced MIDI production, and
audio recording theory while working on his Bachelor’s in Media
Arts degree at CSU Dominguez Hills. It was during this time that he was
called back to Stewart Sound and given an opportunity to realize his dream
of working at OC’s finest audio post-production facility.
At Stewart Sound, his audio work now includes voice over recording, editing
and mixing, sound design, audio sweetening, and working with 5.1 surround
sound. His credit list includes various national radio and television
commercials, long format shows, HD videos, and a series of surround sound
film projects. In addition, as the technical demands of our audio engineers
change, he has helped create new procedures and solutions to meet our
clients needs.
He continues to improve and refine his audio skills every day, running
sound for his band’s 10,000 watt PA system and producing dj mixes
and content for a bilingual world music community website.
